Mumbai Airport in India is surrounded by residential areas, some located very near to its boundary. In its noise action plan the airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Ltd., included therefore as a potential solution the installation of a noise barrier to reduce the impact of noise, generated by ground operations like taxiing aircraft and engine run-ups, in the neighbouring residential areas. Anotec and its Indian partner NDGS were contracted to conduct a feasibility study for the installation of such noise barrier. The study consisted of a comprehensive noise measurement campaign, a land use survey and a modelling exercise. A variety of noise barrier designs was assessed and the most feasible option was designed in more detail.
